Tutor Profile.
Hello, my name is Debbie and I am a very experienced Secondary teacher (QTS) of Social Sciences and Humanities. In particular, I have considerable experience teaching and tutoring of A Level and GCSE in Psychology, Sociology, History and Politics. In the former I have taught in IB qualifications. I also have supported students with other academic studies and enabled them to gain higher marks through acquisition of knowledge, recall and application with the skills, of analysis and evaluation, needed to maximise their grades.

I love sharing my teaching and learning and use a variety of methods and tasks to engage and support learning, building confidence and sharing a positive, open and accessible environment. Learning should be fun, I believe and encourage this through different outlets whether using ‘playdoh’ to create concepts or through the creation of cartoons or ‘equations’ or tables/ diagrams to summarise information. This is true for primary age pupils, teenagers or adults, through fun and novel mechanisms, knowledge can be learned and applied to best support each individual. It is so satisfying when the ‘lightbulb moments’ happen in learning and can be applied to studies and contemporary issues. These methods combined have proved successful in enabling students to achieve or exceed their predicted grades. By knowing my students and having a positive open and supportive teaching and learning environment students feel comfortable to make mistakes and progress.
In my free time I enjoy a variety of different interests and activities. I enjoy baking and trying out new recipes, although it is hard to have restraint. Practically I enjoy the accomplishment of sewing and gardening. My eldest daughter is a keen swimmer so most weekends I am found at a swimming pool. I am learning the rules and techniques to officiate at galas. I had not realised the complexity and myriad of technical rules that exist for competitors in this sport. When I do finally sit down with a cup of tea and can put my feet up, I am enjoying the discovery of new genres of fiction to read.
