Tutor Profile.

Hello, my name is Paul and I am joining the SAT team as a fully qualified secondary school teacher of 29 years experience teaching and tutoring. I have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Science. I studied at London Metropolitan, University of Hertfordshire and the Open University.

I stopped full-time teaching July 2024 to get a better work life balance, spend more time with my family and take on more 1:1 tutoring which I find most rewarding; the best feeling as teacher is “seeing the penny drop” and help those students who need the extra support to achieve their potential.

My daughter has EHCP for visual impairment and I have seen how well she progressed when she is given well prepared resources combined with the appropriate support.

I worked as SEN Governor at my daughters’ Primary school and I enjoy tutoring Primary Maths and Science, working out the best way to explain a tricky concept and seeing the child proud of their achievements when they master a topic.

My approach is very student-centred, every one is different and the benefit of tutoring 1:1 Vs teaching a class of 30 is that I can focus on providing tailored teaching to best support and encourage the student. I have experience teaching children with additional needs and those on the autistic spectrum, hearing impaired and visually impaired.

“Be the best you can be” is the ethos I encourage all my students to adopt and two of my favourite quotes highlight the optimism I try to bring to my lessons. “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new” and “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts”
