An Updated How We Teach Online

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

In 2020, we published our first blog post describing how our tutors teach their lessons online (you can read that here). This blog covers areas such as the different platforms we use, how we use them, and why online tutoring is a fantastic choice for our young learners. This blog was created during the height of the first Covid-19 lockdown, when we were relatively new to the online tutoring scene and still finding our feet. Since the lockdown was lifted, Learn With SAT has continued to support students with online tutoring, due to the excellent results and feedback we have received, especially for our students with special educational needs and disabilities. Learn With SAT has grown dramatically ever since, and our tutors now teach over 800 hours of online tutoring sessions every month!

In our first blog, we described all the different platforms we used for our sessions, and how they made learning both fun and interactive. This area of Learn With SAT remains the same to this day, with our tutors primarily using Zoom, Skype and BitPaper.io, so we thought we would dedicate this online tutoring blog to all the fantastic things we have learned since we first started on this journey!

Teachworks

Our online journey has required us to take a much more organised approach to the business structure. This has included the addition of a platform called Teachworks. Teachworks is an online cloud based management software where you can book lessons, see your tutors profile and see your upcoming calendar events. It includes the tutor’s personal meeting room Zoom link for every lesson, meaning that you can see exactly what's coming up!

One of teachwork’s most attractive features is the submission of lesson notes, where after every single lesson, the tutor is able to write a short report explaining exactly what they did, their learning targets and any further work on the topic. This feature has been absolutely fantastic for documenting student’s progress.

New Additions

The online tutoring community has grown dramatically since Covid-19 first hit us in the UK, and as a result, we have brought new, experienced and qualified members of staff to the team to keep up with demand. In the last 3 years we have employed around 20 additional tutors and 2 extra admin staff to the Learn With SAT team! Check out their profiles here.

Training

At Learn With SAT, training has always been at the forefront of our business strategy. How can we continue to be excellent tutors if we all live in the past? In the last 2 years alone, we have increased our tutor’s CPD to 4 times a month! This includes areas such as online tutoring, how to help our students revise online, how to support our student’s SEMH needs, and a wide variety of SEND based CPD such as PDA training, Selective Mutism training, Ehlers-Danlos Training and many more!

We still have a lot of work to get Sammie Allen Tutoring to exactly where we want it to be, but for now, we hope that this blog gives you a little more confidence in choosing Online Tutoring as a path for your child.
