Hello! My name is Su and I am joining the SAT team as a KS3 English and Humanities tutor and will also be teaching History at KS4. I have a BA (Hons) in History, a MA in Social Sciences, and Qualified Teacher Status. I have five years of classroom teaching experience and have worked as a Teaching Assistant for the past five years in both Special and Mainstream Schools.

 

I have extensive knowledge – both personal and professional – of Special Educational Needs and have supported students with ADHD, ASD, SEMH, and visual impairment, among others. I am also a qualified TEFL teacher and have taught English in Greece and on-line.

 

Each summer, I work as an Assessment Specialist or an exam board, marking GCSE History papers. I have been fascinated with History since I was little, and love sharing my enthusiasm through my teaching.

 

I believe that by finding out about our past, we can all gain a greater understanding and appreciation of our present. For me, History acts like a doorway: once we open it, we can discover so much about all aspects of human experience – our language, our art, our landscape, and our society. I seek to create lessons for my students that draw on their interests, and cater to their needs. Placing the student at the centre of the learning experience allows them not only to engage with the content of the lesson but to gain confidence in their own abilities and make their own connections.

 

From my own experience, I know that the best learning occurs when there is a strong partnership between the learner and the
teacher.
